AN Ebbw Vale artist was "honoured" to have his work projected onto Cardiff City Hall to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Prince's Trust.

Nathan Wyburn created a giant mosaic portrait of singer Paloma Faith made up of of thousands of photos of young people supported by the Trust.

The image of the singer, who is an ambassador for the charity, was also projected onto landmark buildings across the UK.

Mr Wyburn is known for making portraits of celebrities out of food, which include Rowan Atkinson out of beans and Simon Cowell on toast.

“It was an honour to be asked to create the portrait as part of The Prince’s Trust 40th anniversary celebrations," he said.

"I think The Trust is a fantastic organisation, and I am always inspired by the stories of young people overcoming all kinds of barriers to achieve their goals.

"The portrait was a fun challenge for me, as I usually paint with unusual materials such as food and everyday items, but I’m really pleased with the end result.”

More than 825,000 young people have been directly supported by The Prince’s Trust since 1976 and thousands more have fundraised, volunteered or worked with the youth charity over the years.

Ms Faith, who also received a grant from the charity as a teenager, was impressed with Mr Wyburn's effort.

She said: “What struck me about the picture is how it conveys the impact of The Trust’s work – it reminds me there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who like me, have been helped by The Trust over the last 40 years and countless more who make its work possible."
