ONE of Newport’s most famous and iconic landmarks has retained a certificate of excellence from a leading internet travel review website.

The Transporter Bridge has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the second consecutive year.

The achievement celebrates tourism businesses that have earned great traveller reviews on the website over the past year.

“Newport Transporter Bridge Bridge is one of only five operational transporter bridges in the world and one of only two in the UK,” said Newport City Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, councillor Debbie Harvey.

“It is consistently highly rated on TripAdvisor so to receive acknowledgement of this with the Certificate of Excellence, for the second year running, is great news for the city and for the many volunteers who run this tourist attraction along with the visitor centre.”

Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.

Newport Transporter Bridge was opened in 1906,

Repair works saw it receive a major refit in the 1990s and again in 2010.

The bridge is open from Wednesday to Sunday until September 30, from 10am to 5pm.

It is also open this Bank Holiday Monday, and again in August.

Last admission is 4pm and the last ferry crossing from west to east is at 4.30pm.
