EBBW Vale's newly-refurbished library will reopen on Monday.

The building has been modernised thanks to funding from the Welsh Government and is the last of Blaenau Gwent's six libraries to be refurbished.

Aneurin Leisure, which runs libraries on behalf of Blaenau Gwent council, said it will mean "greater community involvement and IT facilities".

Anthony Hughes, managing director of Aneurin Leisure called it "exciting news" for library services in the borough and said it would play a vital role in the community.

"It will provide a valuable, multipurpose community space, with something for everyone and will enable us to transform the library, making it relevant to the community today, having a huge potential to change lives," he said,

A temporary library was set up within Ebbw Vale Learning Action Centre while works were undertaken, but the centre is now closed until Friday (July 29) to allow staff to transfer stock back to the main library ahead of the re-opening.

The new telephone number for Ebbw Vale Library will be 01495 355055.

It will open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 5.30pm, and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. It will be closed on Wednesday and Sunday.

Face painting will be offered to all children enrolling for the Summer Reading Challenge scheme on Monday, August 1 and job seekers can attend a new job club ever Tuesday morning at Ebbw Vale Library from August 2.

Mr Hughes added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for the support and patience they have shown during this time of refurbishment and look forward to welcoming them to our vibrant new look venue.”
