DRIVERS are facing delays of more than an hour after the road was severely damaged from an accident last night.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash which happened last night on the a465 Heads of the Valleys road between Brynmawr and Gilwern.
Last night Costain, who are responsible for the Heads of the Valleys road, said there had been serious damage to the road and crash barrier and the road is unsafe to open fully.
Single lane traffic is operating all day today until repairs are done.
There are temporary traffic lights as emergency repairs are carried out.
Costain said: "Long delays expected so please try to find alternative route if you can."
There is heavy traffic eastbound to the B4560 for Rassau through the roadworks area.
There are temporary traffic lights to allow traffic through the area. Police are awaiting recovery.
Avoid #A465 Heads of the Valley towards Black Rock/Brynmawr. Been in the queue for over an hour now. #headsofthevalley

Traffic is reportedly three miles back:
@A465_Section2 traffic is about 3 miles back. Whatever traffic measures are in place aren't working, you need to let more cars through

Driver Huw Evans, who is stuck in traffic, is driving to Bristol and then Liverpool. He called the delays "shocking".
@A465_Section2 whatever traffic measures are in place this morning they are not working shocking delays #sortitout
