MORE THAN 4,000 visitors attended Newport's first ever Colour Clash at Rodney Parade.

The open-air festival saw revellers doused in paint at regular intervals as a list of some of the UK's best live DJs and artists performed onstage.

Performers on the bill, which took place on Saturday, July 23, included DJ sets from McFly's Danny Jones and renowned house DJ Artful Dodger and grime artists Krept X Konan, Lethal Bizzle and Big Narstie.

MTV Club, who acted as the event's primary partner, also provided a list of DJs as well as celebrity guests from reality TV.

Colour Clash, which takes inspiration from the Indian festival of colours 'Holi', has been used across the UK and beyond.

Kelly Reardon-Brown, events manager at Rodney Parade, hailed Newport's one-day version of the event as a success.

"We are delighted to have staged our first ever open air festival at Rodney Parade," said Ms Reardon-Brown.

"It was a really big deal for us, and we felt it was something that Newport was lacking.

"The police gave us compliments on how we ran the event, which could have become something quite lively but it was a really enjoyable day."

The event was tied into Newport's inaugural street food and beer festival, The Big Feast, which also took part at Rodney Parade on Sunday.

According to Ms Reardon-Brown, plans are already in motion to hold similar events across three days in August next year.

She added: "After this year's success, we hope that there's plenty more to come."
