A CHEPSTOW woman has thanked a mother-of-two who saved her life after she tried to jump from a bridge in Newport.

Leah Morgan, from Bacon Place, Malpas, launched an appeal in the Argus to track down a 19-year-old woman she talked down from Newport Bridge two years ago.

Chloe Saysell, 21, of Chepstow, came forward as the woman who Ms Morgan saved and the two are making plans to meet up in person.

Miss Morgan said she saw Miss Saysell on the bridge on July 22, 2014, and approached her offering her a cigarette. She said she opened up with her own story in the hope Miss Saysell would relate to it.

Miss Morgan, who is currently expecting a baby girl, then went down to the subway to call the emergency services - but then saw Miss Saysell climbing over the side of the bridge. She said she sprinted towards her and grabbed her by her leg and her torso stopping her from falling.

The 23-year-old said she wanted to get in touch with the woman as she wondered how she is doing.

Miss Saysell who said she is doing well after spending 18 months in hospital thanked Miss Morgan for her actions.

She said: "If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be around right now. I said to her I'm so grateful for what she did.

"I thanked her for saving my life. I was very shocked and touched that after two years she was still thinking about me and wanted to find me."

Miss Saysell said she still struggles but is trying to move on with her life and now has a much better support system in place.

The 21-year-old said she would encourage anyone who is in her situation to get the help they need.

She said: "It's not as dark as you think at the time - you just need to get the support and you can overcome this. With the right support you can get through it."

Miss Morgan said she was 'amazed' to find Miss Saysell so quickly - after an hour of the appeal being published on the Argus' Facebook page Miss Saysell got in touch.

She said: "I just thought wow. I had a lump in my throat - I managed to actually find her and she's okay.

"When she messaged me I was speechless. I said to her she's got a friend in me anytime she wants a chat and a cuppa - I'll be there."
