UPDATE: The road has now re-opened.



THE M4 eastbound is closed between junction 28 and 27 at Newport due to a car fire.

There is congestion up to junction 30, Cardiff Gate.

Police and the fire service are on the scene while the incident is being dealt with.

Currently, there is trapped traffic within the closure on the motorway.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The car was well alight when we got to the scene. We have now put the fire out.

“We sent two fire engines, one from Maindee and one from Duffryn.

“The person in the car reported no injuries.

“Gwent Police and Traffic Wales are at the scene.”
