For those of you who have an iron and ironing board in the house that get's used then I'm afraid you're wasting your time and not controlling your lives properly.

We don't iron in this house. Maybe once or twice a year. Our iron is so old it used to sit next to the basket in the inglenook fireplace.

Now this may seem rather strange to those of you who spends hours each Sunday creasing, pressing, steaming and starching and then neatly stacking into the washing basket to look at afterwards to see what an achievement you've done..

Well, fan my brow with a flat iron.........there's more to life than that I can tell you.

If your clothes need ironing then it's because you've obviously not taken a little more care in shaking your clothes before hanging them out to dry.

Now time to teach you all how to suck eggs properly and make note of these tips as they provide professional help in making your life easier......so basically all of you ladies' out there who think they know best...then you will when you read on ok.

Handy tip : When your washing machine has finished it's full wash cycle, remove all of the washed linen out of the machine and fold them tidily into a basket of some description. This will help to keep your clothes in a crease free condition for much longer.

Once you've done this, pick up your washing basket and take it out to the washing line in the garden. ( If you've got a rotary then I suppose that'll do ).

Take a lot of care now before hanging out the said washing and to ensure your newly washed items stay clean, run a clean damp cloth along the washing line for perfect results each time.

There are many ways to hang out your washing and many people get it wrong so here's some more tips .....

Hanging jeans from the waist isn't clever, the waist needs to swing in the breeze / wind and let gravity drag the water out, the legs need to be hung on the line from the inside of one leg so creating two wind tunnel effects that make drying so much quicker.

T-shirts that may stretch, will stretch, if hung from the waist end. All T-shirts must be folded over the line in half and then pegged. This ensures the garment keeps it's original shape.

Towels are a little more tricky.......

If you have a large bathroom towel then make the mose of the breeze and peg at each corner with no folding ( 3 pegs needed if the wind is more than 4 on the beaufort scale ).

Tea towels need only to be pegged at one corner and left to dry.

If you feel you have be unfairly treated and you think you wash and iron the most perfect way then please do not hesitate to contact me by using the comments form at the bottom of this page. You may need to register first.

Thankyou.

Scientific facts : People who iron regularly waste 28 months of their lives standing there being stupid.

There's enough electricity in that period to power cardiff City centre and Christmas time for 22.5 hours and that's with the christmas lights on.

Enough steam is produced when steam ironing, to run Stephensons Rocket from Darlington to Stockton and back again every day for next three weeks.

More clothes get ruined through ironing than any other method of cleaning.

There are approximately 666 accidents every year that have been blamed on the use of an iron, most of them are 3rd degree burns and slips from water spillages on the kitchen floor.

124 people suffer each year from back problems and sciatica due to excessive ironing.

Many women think ironing is therapeutic, this is not so. The best form of therapy can be had when you sit down and refuse to do the ironing for the rest of your life.
