A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for Wales, the Met Office has confirmed.
Twenty-one of the 22 Welsh local authorities, including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen are covered by the advisory notice.
According to the Met Office, a wide-ranging spread of continuous and, at times, heavy rain will move north from the south west.
It is anticipated that the most persistent rain affecting this area of Wales should clear by the afternoon, although potentially thundery showers with heavy rain could follow.
In addition, north-easterly gusts of up to 50 mph could develop and the Met Office has advised motorists to be aware of possible localised flooding and transport disruption.
The chief forecaster said: “Some 20 to 30 mm of rain may fall in a three to six hour period in places, with as much as 40 to 60 mm possible locally through the whole of Monday.
The weather warning will remain in place until 11.55pm this evening.
