Ready to sing: Welsh children's cancer charity LATCH will celebrate its silver jubilee at St David's Hall, Cardiff, on Sunday, July 15, with help from a Risca school Roy Noble will host the event, which features comedian Jimmy Cricket, supported by the Richard Williams Singers and Gentlemen Songsters, who will render their version of Les Miserables.

Also on the bill is mezzo soprano Helen May, with accompanist Jonathan Griffiths.

The night will see 250 children from schools across South Wales perform in what organisers promise will be a magical night.

Among the performers is the choir from Ty-Sign Primary School, under the musical direction of teachers Meryl Gittins and Jan Griffiths.

The choir has a busy annual schedule, performing with Risca Male Choir and Cross Keys College Choral Society, and has performed at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, enthralling and delighting audiences.

Other schools and youth groups from across South Wales performing at the concert include Pencoed Junior School Choir, Cefn Saeson Comprehensive Soul Band and Shirley and Mandy Morris Dance Company.

The concert starts at 7pm. Tickets range from £6 to £10, £2 discount for concessions and children. Available from St David's Hall on 02920 878444.

Combined concert: At Newbridge Leisure Centre on Friday, June 15, Newbridge (Celynen) Brass Band performed with Risca Male Choir.

Don Touhig, MP for Islwyn, compered the show. Both the choir and the band put on fantastic performances.

Cymanfa Ganu: On Saturday June 16, at Moriah Baptist Church, Risca, the Cymanfa Ganu was held featuring Cross Keys College Choral Society, Risca Male Choir and Ty Sign Junior School.

The event raised cash for the Brawn Girls Hydrotherapy Pool fund, Cancer Research UK Risca Committee, and St John Ambulance in Wales, Risca Division.

The programme featured hymns as well as pieces performed by the three choirs.

Auction action: A Chinese Auction is on Wednesday, June 27, at St Anthony and St Clare Catholic Church, Lyne Road, Risca.

Doors open for viewing from 7pm with the auction to start at 8pm.

Entrance is £1 by ticket or on the door, and includes a welcome drink.

Refreshments will be available, all proceeds go to church activities.

Save a life, give blood: The Blood Transfusion service in Wales is holding a donor session at Moriah Baptist Church School Rooms, from Wednesday, June 27, until Friday, June 29.

Sessions on Wednesday and Thursday run 10am-12.30pm and 2pm-6pm. Friday sessions will be 10am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm.

Lots of Laughs: Newbridge Memo Presents Three's a Crowd, a night of song and laughter starring Robert Knight and Mandy Starr on Thursday, June 28, at 7.30pm.

Floral display: The parks department workmen of Caerphilly borough council have excelled themselves with the hanging baskets on lamp posts throughout the village and by planting various types of plants in the borders and other receptacles in the streets.

Given fair weather and no vandalism, a fine show should result.

Meeting: The next meeting of the Risca branch of the Royal British Legion is on Wednesday, July 4, at 7.15pm in the Branch Club, Pontymister.

Rugby: Risca RFC will start training in the week commencing July 8 at the Stores Field, Risca.
