THOUSANDS of pounds has been raised for a road safety charity at an event in memory of a young farmer who died four years ago in a crash.

Dozens of tractors made their way through the countryside last month for the event held every year since the death of Harry Copperthwaite Smith, of Lower Wick, who was 17 years old when he was killed in an accident on roads between Woodford and North Nibley on November 13, 2013.

Donations on the day along with proceeds from an auction saw the event raise £3,635 for RoadPeace, a national charity for road crash victims.

Harry’s mum Kerry, who helps organise the events, said: “We would really like to thank all who came and supported us and, I hope, enjoyed the day as much as we did in memory of Harry Copperthwaite Smith, our son.

“It would have been four years to the day we lost him.

“We would also like to thank the companies who donated items for the auction and John Pullin of Voyce Pullin Auctioneers, Dave Davies and John Bearman and many others who gave up time in their day to join us and support us. We could not do it without them”

Eighty-two vehicles took part in this year’s tractor run on Sunday, November 13 – up from 65 last year.

As well as an auction featuring a wide variety of items – including 12 bales of hay – the event also featured a talk by RoadPeace representative, Kate Tucker, who spoke about the charity’s work.
