A MAN who was taken to hospital when a car hit a lamp post in Caerphilly has 'life threatning' injuries, police confirm.
Gwent Police were called to the crash site at 11.26am yesterday on the main road in Maesycwmmer.
Welsh Ambulance Service sent two rapid response cars and an emergency ambulance to the scene and a 65-year-old man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital.
As emergency services attended the scene, the A472 Caerphilly was temporarily closed in both directions.
The closure affected drivers in the Ystrad Mynach area between the A469 (Ystrad Mynach) and B4252 (Thomas Street Maesycwmmer).
At around 2.36pm the road was re-opened.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "Conditions are still considered to be life threatening".
