A FIRE broke out in a first-floor bedroom flat in Commercial Road, Newport this afternoon.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed that three fire engines from New Inn, Maindee and Duffryn were called to the scene at 12.32pm.
Armed police were also seen at the scene but police confirmed they were "close to the incident at the time and therefore assisted"
The fire has now been extinguished but the cause of it is currently unknown.
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: "At approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 we were called to reports of a fire at a property along Commercial Road in Newport.
"No one was in the premises at the time and there has been no injuries."
