KIND-HEARTED youngster Phoebe Aspey has smashed her fund-raising target for our 125 Appeal for St David's Hospice Care.

The three-year-old set herself the challenge of building a Lego tower with 125 bricks and yesterday she did just that.

Better still she doubled her fundraising target.

The challenge was taken up as part of our 125 Appeal to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care throughout this our 125th anniversary year.

Phoebe’s grandmother used St David’s Hospice Care’s Hospice at Home service so she could spend her last days at home. Following her death Phoebe didn’t cope well so she was referred to the hospice’s Unicorn Service which helps children who are dealing with bereavement.

Our 125 Appeal is raising money to help support services like these which help so many people in our communities.

Phoebe’s mother Michelle Aspey said that Phoebe was awake at 6am and was ready to start the challenge by 8am.

“Myself and my husband counted the 125 Lego blocks out the night before. It took us almost an hour because we wanted to check that we had the right number. We gave her the big box of Lego and she just got on with it.”

Phoebe didn’t need any assistance during the challenge, and even though some bits of the tower did fall over she persevered with the challenge.

Dad Stuart was on hand to make sure Phoebe’s little brother Hunter didn’t interfere with the building while the family cheered her on. “When she finished she waved her hands around frantically. We have had to hide the tower in another room so her one-year-old brother can’t break it.

“We are incredibly proud of her. She did it on her own with no help and was telling us all about the different parts of the tower as she built it.”

The family set the target of raising £125 for the appeal, but they have already exceeded that target and expect to raise £300.

The South Wales Argus is looking for lots more 125 themed fundraising ideas like Phoebe’s to help make our campaign a success.

We are recruiting people from all over the region to take part in the appeal to help the St David’s Hospice Care. So if you think you can help us like Phoebe then please get in touch.
