FUNDRAISING teams across the region have come up with fun and innovative ideas to celebrate our 125 year anniversary.

We are looking for 125 fundraising teams to join our appeal to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care to help with the different work that they carry out in our community.

The Gym in Newport signed up for a fitness challenge of completing 125 miles on a stationary bike.

Assistant general manager David Smith said: “We wanted to do more for the community and we have members and friends who have gone through experiences with the hospice and so it’s quite personal to us.”

10 members of staff took part in the challenge in which they completed 90 miles on the first evening and 35 miles the next day.

Mr Smith added: “We loved it, everyone enjoyed it and they all wanted to get involved. Lots of them were volunteers and people on work experience, but they made sure they were here to take part. here were a few sore legs after the challenge.”

Gemma Carter, Community and Events Fundraiser for Newport and Monmouthshire at St David’s Hospice Care said: “I agreed to get them started and do the first mile. Five miles later I was still going. I would like to thank The Gym for their fundraising.”
