ACTIVITIES: In reflection of WWF’s global celebration of Earth Hour, Head4Arts will be delivering free family friendly arts activities in four fantastic venues. They offer the chance for people across the counties of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen to engage in earth-based fun as communities come together to raise awareness for climate change with events by lantern and star light.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday March 25 and, along with key partners, Head4Arts is organising outdoor events in Parc Penallta (Ystrad Mynach) and Troedyrhiw (Merthyr Tydfil) and indoor events at Parc Bryn Bach (Tredegar) and Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and Library. All events run from 6.30pm (except Troedyrhiw at 8.30pm) and continue into Earth Hour itself (8.30pm-9.30pm).

Each venue has its own menu of arts activities ranging from a Penguin Parade in Penallta (wear black and white and remember to bring a torch!) to events featuring storytelling, silent discos, music, poetry, light painting and crafts.

People can also create their own “planet pledge” by forwarding details of their favourite thing about the planet and committing to a simple lifestyle change to help preserve it. Pledges can be sent to the Head4Arts social media pages @head4arts or emailed to info@head4arts.org.uk.

A selection of these will be published on the Head4Arts website and be added to their collection of “wishes on a star” pledges made in the Earth Hour workshops over half term.
