I LIKEN Disney On Ice to one of those holiday-time extravaganzas I adored so much on television as I was growing up. A celebration of Disney characters and the wonderful medium of dance, both seamlessly slot together from the offset as dancers and marionettes lead the way for the audience to get “fit to dance” before the arrival of Mickey and Minnie Mouse to the ice rink. They are quickly joined by Donald Duck and Goofy who on Mickey’s suggestion, decide to take the audience on a journey through some of the most magical films of all time.

The magic really comes to life as characters and scenes are staged for the ice show. Be it Geppetto’s clockwork dolls from Pinocchio or Finding Nemo under the ocean waves, scenes shift and change as the dancers, twist, turn and leap in the air to a soundtrack of familiar favourites such as When You Wish Upon a Star and Turtle Rock.

A selection of greatest scenes follow from Beauty and The Beast, Mulan, Aladdin and Toy Story, while a cavalcade of stars such as Cinderella, The Frog Prince and Little Mermaid put in appearances while gaining gasps of appreciation from young and old alike.

Disney’s greatest film hit of recent years, Frozen gets a lengthy sequence which displays how well it could work on its own merits as an ice show, brought to life with snowy scenes and the magical appearance of Olaf the snowman.

The show wraps with a Lion King sequence featuring the song Hakuna Matata, which translates as No Worries, a great statement indeed as there were No Worries that everyone in attendance enjoyed this splendid spectacular for the whole family!
