ROCK bands are planning a concert to help raise funds for neonatal units at the Royal Gwent and Nevil Hall hospitals.

Fourteen bands will entertain rock fans at Dolls House, Abertillery, this weekend.

Dan Lambert, singer with Johnny Cage and The Voodoo Groove, said: “Our drummer’s mum works at one of the hospitals so it’s a cause close to home.

“We’re happy to be asked to help raise funds by coming to rock the Dolls House and it looks like a great line up.

“We are hoping for every success in getting the support needed to make a difference.”

The hospital units currently provide neonatal intensive care for premature and sick babies from across Gwent

Katherine McCarthy, a children’s nurse who covers shifts at both hospitals, said: “Concerts such as this provide us with greatly appreciated additional funding which we can put to good use.

“We have a fabulous new unit at the Royal Gwent and some of the funds will be put towards equipment for parents and babies so that we can make their stay as comfortable as possible.”
