A PUB has joined the fundraising fun to raise money for our 125 Appeal.

The Ponthir House Inn, which is located on Caerleon Road in Ponthir, will host a music festival on May 28 for the appeal which marks the 125th anniversary of the South Wales Argus.

We launched the 125 Appeal to raise money to help with the huge costs of running St David’s Hospice Care in Newport and to enable them to continue their vital work in our community.

The hospice is the UK’s largest provider of hospice at home care that now cares for more than 3,200 patients and families every year, at a cost of more than £7.5 million.

People from across the region have been holding specially 125 themed fundraising events including gym and running challenges, quiz nights and singing events.

The staff at the popular Ponthir House Inn and St David’s Hospice Care’s retail office manager Lesley Bateman came up with the idea of holding a music festival called Party at Ponthir as a fundraising event for our appeal.

Ms Bateman said: “We aim to play 125 songs in the time we have, which equates to seven and a half hours of music.

“Some of the activities we have taking place on the day will be a barbecue and some games for the youngsters including giant pass the parcel and giant musical statues along with a face painter. There will also be raffle and bingo at different times during the day.”

Three of the bands confirmed to play on the day are The Elastic Band, Innovence, and The New Found Out, with more to be announced.

The event will take place on May 28 and the organisers say it’s an event that is perfect for people of all ages.

Barrie Walden, landlord at the Ponthir House Inn, said: “I have a few regular customers who work for the hospice and it’s a charity we have supported for a few years, so I thought I would get involved as well.”

He added: “It will be a fun family day with food and music, and everyone is welcome. We are really looking forward to it we have had a lot of interest, so it should be a good day.”

The event will start at 2pm and entertainment will begin at 3pm. There is no entry fee for the event, but donations to St David’s Hospice Care are welcome.

Anyone who would like to donate raffle prizes to the event or would like more information about the Party at Ponthir should contact the Ponthir House Inn on 01633 420479.
