A PHOTOGRAPH of the Severn Bridge has snapped up first place in the South Wales Argus’ 125 Appeal photography competition.

The photography competition is in aid of St David’s Hospice Care and the theme focussed on heritage.

The winning image - which was announced at Johnsey Estates, Mamhilad Park estate last Thursday - is of the Severn Bridge showing the former ferry slipway at Beachley.

Winner Simon James Bedford said: “I’m thrilled. I put the camera on a beanbag and took the shot.”

The winning photographs will now be displayed at the estate and St David’s Hospice Care in Malpas.

The runner-up was Mike La-Traille from Pontypool.

James Crawford, Chief Executive of Johnsey Estates, said a cheque for a ‘four figure’ sum would be handed to St David’s Hospice Care in due course.

Mr Crawford said: “The standard of the photographs submitted for the competition was extremely high which made judging difficult. We now look forward to seeing some of these marvellous photographs on the walls here at Mamhilad Park Estate.”

Emma Saysell, chief executive of St David’s Hospice Care, added: “I’m sure that the photographs will be a very attractive feature on the walls of our new in patient hospice at Malpas.”
