NOMINATIONS have been coming in from across the region for the first ever South Wales Argus Health and Care Awards.

The awards have been launched to celebrate inspirational and dedicated workers in the health and care industry.

One of those nominated is 46-year-old Samantha Clark from Fairwater in Cwmbran.

Nominated for the Health Care Professional of the Year Award, she has worked at Hollylodge Residential Care Home in Cwmbran for 11 years.

She was nominated because: “She strives to always improve to ensure residents’ dignity and that they have a full-filled life at Hollylodge.”

When she found out about the nomination she said: “I am shocked and overwhelmed. It’s nice that somebody thought of me. I love my work and I get massive job satisfaction.”

Ms Clark has been working in the care sector for her entire career. “I started working as a home carer for Torfaen,” she said, “and then moved into working in care homes. I now work as team leader at the home. I would take charge shift guide carers and oversee what happens during the day.”

Ms Clark has had a difficult 12 months following the death of her mother and father, but her dedication to her work hasn’t faltered.

She said: “Work helped take my mind off what was happening. I work with a good team of people and my manager Debbie Michna was a big support. You can’t help but smile when you come into work and see the ladies and gents.”

Members of the public can nominate in the GP Practice of the Year award category and the Health Care Professional of the Year category.
