A PETITION has been launched calling for an open air swimming pool in Abergavenny to be rebuilt.
The campaign, led by social media group Abergavenny Voice, is calling on Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) to consult with residents about bringing back the pool in Bailey Park.
It also calls on MCC to “consider the needs of residents in relation to Bailey Park and its facilities.”
The petition states: “We, the undersigned, would like Bailey Park to have an open air swimming pool again.
“A new swimming pool in Bailey Park, would not only benefit the people of Abergavenny itself, but also the people of Monmouthshire and even those further afield. It would serve as a strong attraction for visitors to Abergavenny and provide happy memories for our future generations.”
Ian Saunders, head of tourism, leisure and culture at MCC, said: “We look forward to receiving the petition and when we have examined it we will consider our course of action.”
The campaign to bring back the pool has won the support of hundreds of people.
The petition is available at Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre in Monmouth Road.
