THE M48 near Magor was closed earlier today after a large tanker spilt hazardous chemicals and set on fire.
The incident happened this afternoon and the M48 was closed while the fire was put out and the hazardous chemicals were removed.
One lane still remained closed for several hours after the incident.
A spokesman from Gwent Police said: "Thanks for the patience during the closure.
"The tanker was fully ablaze and hazardous chemicals exposed. The closure was for maximum safety."
