NEWPORT’S Westgate Hotel has been sold.
Auctioneers Acuitus has confirmed the sale of the iconic building, situated in the corner of Stow Hill with Commercial Street, but won’t disclose any further details at this stage.
The Grade II listed building went up for auction several times, July being the last time, before being sold.
A spokesman from Acuitis said that they can’t disclose any details of the sale as it is “confidential” and wouldn’t confirm to whom or for how much it had been sold.
The building, which is largely associated with the John Frost-led march of the Chartists in 1839, went up for auction in May with a guide price of between £1.5 million and £1.75 million.
It had previously appeared on the auctioneer’s block in March with a guide price of £2.1 million.
Newport City Council declined to comment as this is a private sale.
