THE streets of Risca have been decked with poppies as Remembrance Day approaches.
As many as 400 ornaments could spring up on lampposts and street signs in Risca, Pontymister and Ty-Sign before November 11.
The idea is the brainchild of Steve Veysey and fellow members of the Risca Royal British Legion (RBL), following the success of a fundraising drive last year in which they raised more than £25,000.
Residents and businesses are being urged to purchase and sponsor a poppy for £5 to support the appeal, with the overall goal of spreading poppies throughout the three communities.
The poppies first began to appear last weekend and are set to remain in place until November 18.
Donations can be made to Howard's Butchers in Commercial Street on Risca, the TLC cafe on Elm Drive in Ty-Sign, or by cheque addressed directly to the Poppy Appeal.
