NEWPORT 

Newport’s annual Remembrance Sunday service will be held at the Cenotaph in Clarence Place on Sunday, November 12.

A parade, led by Newport Pipe and Drums Band and the Boys Brigade, will start in High Street at about 10.30am.

Newport’s Mayor Councillor David Fouweather and Mayoress Paula Fouweather, accompanied by two mace bearers from Newport Sea Cadets, and Councillor Debbie Wilcox, Leader of Newport City Council, will walk to the Cenotaph.

Represntatives from service organisations and other city groups will also be taking part in the parade.

Led by the bishop of Monmouth, the Right Reverend Richard Pain, the service will take place just before 11am and guns will be sounded to mark the start of the two minute silence before wreaths are laid.

Afterwards, the Mayor, Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, the Commanding Officer of 104th Regiment, the High Sheriff and other dignitaries will take the salute from the parade as participants walk back to High Street.

Besides, on Monday, November 6 at 10.45am, the Mayor and Mayoress will attend the opening of the Garden of Remembrance next to the Cenotaph.

Reverend Keith Beardmore, the Royal British Legion Chaplain, will lead the service during which a bugler will play the Last Post. The Mayor and others will plant crosses in the garden before the service concludes at 11am.

At 11am on Friday, November 10, Newport City Council employees and visitors to council buildings will join the two minute silence being held nationally to remember and honour all those who have died in conflicts since serving their country.

BLAENAU GWENT

Rassau and Beaufort 

Remembrance Day Parade and Service for the Rassau & Beaufort area will be held on Sunday, November 12.

The Parade will meet at approx. 1:30pm in the Beaufort Ballroom, then proceed via the main entrance of the Beaufort Theatre, onto Beaufort Rise, down Beaufort Hill and into the Cenotaph where the Service of Remembrance will commence at approximately 1:55pm.

After the aervice, the parade will re-form and march back up Beaufort Rise to the Beaufort Theatre where refreshments will be available, before being dismissed.

Ebbw Vale 

On Sunday, November 12, the parade will assemble in Bethcar Street near Wetherspoons, Ebbw Vale, at 10.15 am, and at 10.30 am will proceed via Market Street and Libanus Road to the War Memorial for the Service of Remembrance, which will commence at 10.50 am.

After the service, the parade will re-form and march back up Libanus Road with the salute being taken in Market Street before being dismissed.

Following dismissal of the parade, refreshments for youth organisations will be distributed, by representatives of Penuel Scouts, from the Learning Action Centre in Market Street.

Brynmawr

Remembrance day parade and service will be held in Brynmawr on Sunday, November 12, assembling at 10.15am outside the Legion Club at the top of Beaufort Street and will set off at approximately 10.25am, via King Street, Somerset Street, Bailey Street and onto Alma Street, to disband and reassemble within the Market Hall Cinema in readiness for the “Two Minutes Silence” at 11.00am followed by a service of Remembrance. 

The Parade will once again reform at approximately 11.40am in Alma Street to march to the Cenotaph on Market Square for the laying of wreaths, once complete the Parade will return to the Legion Club via Beaufort Street.

Refreshments will be provided at the Legion Club Brynmawr.

Nantyglo and Blaina 

Remembrance day parade and service to be held in the Nantyglo and Blaina area on Sunday, November 12, commencing at 2.10 pm from Garn Cross, Nantyglo, proceeding to the War Memorial, Central Park, Blaina for a Service of Remembrance at 2.45 pm.

Following the Service, the parade will re-form and march to the Institute/Library, High Street, Blaina, the salute will be taken at the Old Council District Offices, with the parade being dismissed outside Blaina Institute/Library building.

Following completion of the service and parade, refreshments will be available in Nantyglo Rugby Club. 

Transport will be provided for parade attendees in the Blaina area, which will leave Blaina Institute at 2pm, for Garn Cross, for the commencement of the Parade.

Once the parade has been dismissed outside Blaina Institute/Library, transport will be provided to take parade attendees to Nantyglo Rugby Club, with transport also provided to return parade attendees to Blaina at approximately 6pm. 

Tredegar

Remembrance day parade will be held in Tredegar on Sunday, November 12. Arrive at St George's Church at 9.45am for service, assemble outside St George's Church at 10.30am, march to cenotaph at Bedwellty Park for service and laying of wreaths commencing at 10.50am. Two Minutes Silence at 11.00am.

Abertillery 

Remembrance day parade and service will be held in Abertillery on Sunday, November 12. Assemble at 10.15am at the top end of Church Street, march off at 10.30am, arrive at war memorial at 10.45am, and then reassemble at 11.15am for the march to the Salvation Army Citadel for church Service.

Llanhilleth 

Also on Sunday, November 12, assemble at 10.15am at Saint Mark’s Church, march off at 10.30am for service at war memorial, Llanhilleth Institute at 10.45am.

Bournville 

Also on Sunday, November 12, assemble at community hall at 3.00pm. Wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.

CAERPHILLY

The mayor of Caerphilly county borough council, Cllr John Bevan, will join residents to honour members of the armed forces – past and present – at many of this year’s Remembrance services.

Senior members will also represent Caerphilly county borough council at many of the services planned across the whole weekend.
