AN ELDERLY couple managed to stop two men armed with a knife from entering their home on Wednesday morning.

Michael and Lynn White, who are both retired, saw two men with hoods holding a knife when they opened their door to them at their home on Hillside Avenue in Blaenavon just after midnight.

When the men tried to force their way inside 72-year-old Mr White stopped the pair, pushing them out of the door while his wife called the police.

The couple’s daughter, Elaine White, said the men were demanding car keys and after a struggle her father managed to shut the door on the men.

"They were trying to force their way into the property and my dad hung onto the door but they still tried to barge their way in," she said.

“They’re very vulnerable, my mum is registered disabled and my dad is her carer. They’re petrified they might come back.

“If they can do that to my parents the next people might not be so lucky”.

She added: “I want the offenders to hand themselves in and not to do it again. I’m scared it will happen to someone else.

“There are no other words for them than scumbags”.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “Two unknown men knocked on the door of the property armed with a knife and asked for keys before running away from the house empty handed.

“No one was hurt during the incident however the residents were understandably very shaken.

“Officers are investigating this incident and are appealing for anyone who has information to contact them.

“They would particularly be interested in hearing from anyone who might have seen anyone suspicious in the area just before midnight”.

The two male offenders are both described white, in their 20s around 5ft 7in tall and both wearing hooded tops.
