THIS week our From the Archive piece features a sketch of the former beach huts which used to adorn the coastline near Penarth.
Each week we take a look at a historical image of the town and surrounding area.
Here is St. Mary’s Well Bay beach in Lavernock in the early 1930s with the now long gone beach huts and kiosks.
In its heyday, many thousands of day trippers and holiday makers flocked to the area, travelling down by train.
The line to Lavernock was opened in 1890 but this line was eventually closed in 1968.
Thanks to Sean Jones, member of Images of Bygone Penarth, for sharing the image with us.
If you have an historical image of Penarth you would like to share, email penarthtimes@penarthtimes.co.uk with it and a small explanation of some of the history behind it.
