EMERGENCY services were called to the scene of a crash in Pontnewydd near Cwmbran yesterday.
According to police two people were hit by a Hyundai as they crossed the road.
A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “We were called at 5.26pm to reports of an RTC on Commercial Street, Pontnewydd in Cwmbran.
“Officers attended and there were three casualties at the scene. Paramedics have concerns for a male, who is conscious and breathing.
"Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening."
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at approximately 5.30pm yesterday (Monday, December 4) to reports that two pedestrians had been hit by a car on Station Road, Pontnewydd.
"We sent two crews in emergency ambulances and three paramedics in rapid response vehicles and two patients were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
Police have now confirmed that a 79-year-old man died in hospital following the incident.
