CHIPPING Sodbury’s public toilets will be closed for the foreseeable future due to a burst water pipe.

The High Street loos have been shut a pipe burst in the freezing weather conditions earlier this month.

“There is a serious burst pipe and because of it we can’t turn the water on,” said Sodbury town clerk, Cate Davidson.

“The trouble is the pipe is very difficult to gain access to.

“It’s underneath the disabled toilet floor.

“The floor is sealed and we would only want to dig it up as a last resort.”
Sodbury Town Council chairman Phil Rumney said: “The toilet handwash facilities are those metal all-in-one units, with soap, water and drier all included.

“These units are designed to be vandal resistant, which was a consideration when we got them. But now we can’t get access behind them.

“The unit needs to be taken off, but the company who put it in want an exorbitant amount to do so.”

Ms Davidson said: “First of all we want to see if we can find any other way to locate the problem.

“We will be looking at the various options at our next environment and leisure committee meeting on March 27.”

“In the meantime, there are toilets in Waitrose.”
