PUPILS from schools across Torfaen were given the chance to show off their talent and help celebrate the inter-schools eisteddfod's 20th year.

Pontypool Community Council Inter-schools Eisteddfod 2018 was held this week across two days at Pontypool Active Living Centre with Key Stage 2 pupils from seven schools taking part.

Youngsters could compete in a number of categories for silverware in solo recitation, woodwind, singing, brass, folk dancing, strings, piano and choir categories.

The competition was split into infant and junior events with Griffithstown Primary School the outright winner on both days.

The event celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Organisers say the standard and quality of competitors was immense.

Mayor of Torfaen Jessica Powell, who attended the event on Thursday, said: "There is an amazing breadth of talent and it is great too see they are so young yet so confident. We had the full compliment of schools here today."
