THE motorcyclist killed in a crash on the A468 has been named as 60-year-old Gareth Williams from the Bedwas area of Caerphilly.

The accident, which also involved a car, happened on the A468 near Lower Machen, Caerphilly, at 7.50am yesterday (Thursday, April 19).

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash between Royal Oak (Lower Machen) and Pentre Tai Road (Rhiwderin), but shortly afterwards it was confirmed Mr Williams had died as a result of his injuries.

In a moving tribute, his family described Mr Williams as "a true gentleman" and "the most loving, selfless man and devoted husband and father."

The driver of the car was admitted to hospital has since been discharged.

Gwent Police have also confirmed no arrests were made after the crash. 

A spokesman said: "Yesterday, Thursday 19th April 2018, we received reports of a fatal road traffic collision on the A468, Lower Machen.

"The collision happened at around 7.50am and involved a motorcycle and a car.

"The driver of the car received hospital treatment however he has now been released and is recovering at home.
"Sadly, the male rider of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

"He can now be named as 60 year old Gareth Williams from the Bedwas area of Caerphilly. Specialist officers are now supporting his family."

A spokesman for the family said: "Gareth was a true gentleman who found happiness and fulfilment through his family. 

"He was the most loving, selfless man and devoted husband and father."

The accident closed the A468 while emergency services were at the scene.

Bus services between Newport and Caerphilly were also affected.
