Our Dog of the Week is Lexi, a beautiful saluki girl.

Lexi was found almost two weeks ago by a member of the public who took her straight to Summerhill Vets (the out of hours service for Newport City Dogs Home).

Lexi was dreadfully emaciated and had a horrific injury to her tail which had to be amputated, and she spent the next week in the tender care of the vets.

She was given fluids, antibiotics and pain medication, and once she was out of danger Lexi was taken to Newport City Dogs Home, and from there straight into a foster home so she could continue to recover from her ordeal in a home environment.

Lexi quickly settled into her foster home, and her foster mum says she is the perfect house guest. Lexi is still being fed little and often, but she clearly remembers all too well the days and weeks when she didn't know where her next meal was coming from, and she has already helped herself to an organic lentil lasagne from the kitchen counter.

Lexi has met lots of her fellow residents at Newport City Dogs Home and really enjoys being around other dogs. She is incredibly affectionate, and leans into your side at every opportunity for gentle cuddles.

If you would like to meet Lexi please contact Newport City Dogs Home on 01633 290902.
