A FAMILY home in Newport has been gutted by fire, which apparently spread from nearby grassland.

The fire happened in the early hours of Wednesday, at a home in Edney View, Duffryn, Newport.

One passer by told the Argus: "I cycled by on Wednesday morning at about 6.45am and the fire service were still there.

"It looked like it had spread from a grass fire, a lot of the grassy areas around the place were burned."

Neighbours have expressed concern over children setting deliberate fires in grassland near the street during the recent hot weather.
