THE BIG Pit will host an event next week to bring together people of all ages to share photographs and memories of Blaenavon.

‘Photographs and Memories’ will take place on Wednesday, July 25, and is one of many events across Wales dedicated to building bridges between generations under the Welsh Government’s promise to tackle loneliness.

Blaenavon Town Council, the event organisers, have launched their own Intergenerational Group project under this initiative.

People are asked to bring along photographs or items that are special to them, while Town Council’s resident artist Jon Pountney will be show photographs and videos he has produced while getting to know Blaenavon people.

A spokesperson for the town council said: “We all enjoy reminiscing, especially those of us who still live alongside people we grew up with. So Photographs and Memories at Big Pit next Wednesday, 25 July will give people of all ages the lovely opportunity to share their memories of Blaenavon of yesteryear.”

The generational project is being funded by Blaenavon Town Council and the Paul Hamlyn fund, which aims to transforms museums in the community, in partnership with Big Pit, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and the Hwb youth group in town.
