A NEWPORT college – the first in Wales to pilot a new Estyn inspection framework – has emerged from the scheme with positive feedback.

Coleg Gwent, on Nash Road, scored a ‘Good’ rating in every inspection category, which Estyn defines as demonstrating “strong features, although minor aspects may require improvement.”

Coleg Gwent's principal, Guy Lacey, said: “It was interesting to work with Estyn through the pilot of the new inspection framework.

“We value the positive feedback and recognition from Estyn concerning the very good work that the college does to ensure that learners achieve their qualifications.

“We look forward to seeing how the new framework develops as it is rolled out across the sector.”

Estyn praised Coleg Gwent for its links with employers, for supporting students – particularly those with vulnerabilities – and for helping students to achieve vocational main qualifications, for which the college's success rates are higher than the national average for the third year running.
