THE South Wales Argus' War on Litter campaign launched today.

All summer, the Argus will be shouting about the amazing work done by volunteers, local authorities and charities to hold back the tide of rubbish.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

Litter is becoming normalised.

Brazen rubbish dumpers and shameless fly tippers emboldened by the hot weather are turning our public spaces, city centres and streets into their own personal dumping grounds.

With council budgets pushed to the limit and police priorities under more pressure than ever, the time has come to hit back.

So, the South Wales Argus has declared war on litter. Every day, we will be bringing you inspiring stories and advice from volunteer litter groups, local authorities, individual local heroes and national charities.

We've chosen a few pictures from each area in the old county of Gwent to illustrate the problem, along with the hard work volunteers are putting in to fight back.
