CANAL CLEAN-UP: More than 500 cans and bottles, along with eight shopping trolleys and a fire extinguisher, were removed from the canal at Cwmbran Retail Park during a recent clean-up.
Fifteen volunteers helped in the event, which was organised jointly by Torfaen Council and Keep Wales Tidy.
Most of the cans and bottles were out of reach and had to be removed with the aid of a boat provided by Torfaen Council's Operational Services Department. About 20 sacks litter were filled.
Other items which were collected included a bicycle, two car wheels, and three footballs.
Torfaen Council's Canal Warden, Hugh Woodford, said: "It was another successful clear-up. We had great support from a number of volunteers from agencies, including Communi-ties Against Drugs, Torfaen Resource Activity Centre, and Prime Cymru."
