THE son of a senior Welsh politician, who is considered the frontrunner to become the next Welsh Labour leader, has been found guilty of rape.
Jonathan James Drakeford, son of Cardiff West Labour AM Mark Drakeford, was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, September 14.
Drakeford, of St Fagans Road, Cardiff, was also found not guilty of another count of rape during the five day trial.
He pleaded guilty to arranging or facilitating a child sexual offence.
Drakeford is set to appear before the court again on October 21 to be sentenced.
In a statement released to BBC Wales Mark Drakeford said: "This has been a distressing period for our family.
"Our thoughts are with all those caught up in it, especially the victim.
"There will nothing further to add to this statement on this personal and private matter."
