A GROUP of 40 cyclists have raised over £30,000 for the Prostate Cymru charity by cycling from Nice to Rome.

Nigel Osborne, who works in Newport, competed the 500 mile ride in five days as part of the Tap It Out cycle club, based in Pyle.

The challenge, which the riders completed on September 7, was organised by Andy Thomas, a urologist at the Princess of Wales Hospital, and former Wales rugby star Ray Giles.

Between them, the riders have raised £31,000 for prostate cancer research.

Mr Osborne said the ride was definitely tiring, but not as difficult as he had expected, although it did take in some fearsome mountains in Southern France and Northern Italy.

“We were all quite prepared, and we’re all very competitive people,” said Mr Osborne.

“Although one night I fell asleep and woke up the next day fully clothed with my phone in my hand halfway through typing a message to my wife."

Th arduous ride was sponsored by Dunraven Windows who provided 2 vans sprayed in the Prostate Cymru Nice2Rome livery.

Mr Osborne has so far raised £680 on his own for prostate cancer, and you can still donate by visiting https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nigelo-nice2rome .
