A SPECIAL service to dedicate a new stained glass window at a 115-year-old church took place on the weekend.

Crowds of people from across Gwent flocked to St Mary's Church, in Croesyceiliog, on Sunday, September 16 for the service.

It was attended by many clergy members, including Venerable Jonathan Williams, who is archdeacon of Newport, rector Nick Perry of Cwmbran and former priest Father Robert Langton.

Parishioner Mike Farr had funded the £6,000 window - which depicts two doves - in memory of his late wife Joan.

He said: "I want people to look at the window and see peace.

"I hope it will provide people with a place to come and reflect, too.

"This is for everyone, not just for me."

Church warden Paul Austin, who was also present at the service, added: "I am delighted with the window.

"It is very much in keeping with the character of the church and its simplicity.

"The commission is well executed and it conveys a clear message of peace, love and unity."
