EBBW Vale may be three from three but they aren't content with their start to the Principality Premiership as they prepare to host Bridgend, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Steelmen have started the season strongly with a hammering of Llanelli out west, a stirring comeback to edge out Aberavon at Eugene Cross Park and then last week's marvellous 19-12 win at RGC 1404.

Winning in Colwyn Bay against a side likely to be towards the top of the table suggests that Ebbw could be contenders to repeat their 2016 triumph.

However, the management team are ensuring that feet are being kept firmly on the ground at Eugene Cross Park.

"It's gone well, RGC is a difficult place to go so it was really pleasing to get the win," said assistant coach Lewis Roberts.

"To be three from three is a great start but we are not totally happy though because we have only played in patches.

"The boys are working hard in training and want to keep building the performances while getting the wins.

"We know that we are not there just yet and will keep working hard with the squad pushing each other.

"There are boys champing at the bit to get into the 23 and we are really pleased to have such a good group who are desperate to represent the badge and their community."

Bridgend have also made a good start to the season, responding to an opening weekend disappointment at Cross Keys with hard-fought victories against Neath and Swansea.

"They will be full of confidence after that win against Swansea," said Roberts.

"We know they are tough and we went there twice in a week last season for two really physical games.

"We need to improve on a lot of aspects from RGC. They will come here with a good pack and our boys will need to be on the money to provide the platform for the likes of Rhys Jones, Carl Meyer, Toby Fricker and Steff Thomas."
