THE WEEKEND is here at last, with yellow weather warnings issued by the Met Office suggesting it will be a windy one. Epic Outdoor Cinema has had to postpone outdoor screenings of Gladiator (2000) in Caerleon Amphitheatre due to the weather. Luckily there are some other fantastic events taking place this weekend. Here are Leah Powell's top picks.

• One of the largest stamp clubs is hosting a stamp fair at Newport Leisure Centre tomorrow. The fair will take place from 10am until 4pm, with hundreds of stamps on display and dealers available to buy and sell stamps. This free event is welcome to people of all ages, whether they’ve been collecting all their life or are just curious about the hobby.

• A wedding dress charity ball is taking place at Celtic Manor on Saturday. As the name suggests it gives former brides the chance to dust off their wedding outfits for a fun evening in aid of a good cause. Guests can also be bridesmaids, or whip out a fancy hat or fascinator and be a guest. The ball is in aid of St David’s Hospice Care and the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

• 1000 Voices, which is a two-year living history project, will celebrate its conclusion between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday. The project involves pupils from Eveswell Primary School, St Joseph’s RC Primary School and Maindee Primary School, and looks at the history of Community House, where the celebrations will be hosted. People are welcome to come and see the exhibition, which will include: an interactive digital story, original photos and documents from 1900 to the present day, audio recordings of local people’s reminisces, and samples of the multi-media artwork produced by pupils.

• Tintern Abbey will open its doors to the public between 10am and 5pm today and on Saturday, with plenty of free workshops, no booking required. There will also be performances and guest speakers, including later in the evening. These are ticketed events, which require booking in advance. • For one day only, if the weather improves, people will have the chance to walk across Newport’s Transporter Bridge, or cross the gondola, completely free of charge. This free day, supported by Cadw, takes place between 10am and 5pm on Sunday. Although this event is free, the future of this iconic bridge is under threat, with Newport City Council and partners trying to crowdfund £30,000 for the bridge.
