On Saturday (September 29), he will be playing an acoustic set at Chessmen, as the store’s owner, John Stanaway, stages a takeover weekend.

Mr Stanaway, who runs Newport-based wholesale electrical distributors IES, will be jumping behind the counter of the clothing store while regular manager Nick Aston is away for a few days.

Chessmen, based at Newport Retail Park, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and Mr Stanaway is keen to keep the celebrations going.

“As Nick is away, I thought I’d stage a bit of a takeover for the weekend and we’ve got loads of friends, family, colleagues and customers coming in to see us,” he said.

“Jack is a great friend of the store and it’s fantastic that he’s coming in to play a few songs.

“We’re open Saturday and Sunday and I’m really looking forward to being behind the counter and welcoming customers old and new.”

Jack Perrett’s acoustic set at Chessmen starts at 11am on Saturday.
