A DOG from Gwent has won a worldwide competition to be featured in a calendar full of pets in wheelchairs.
Ace, a special needs Border Collie living in Crumlin, Caerphilly County Borough, is one of 13 winners featured in a 2019 calendar titled 'Walkin’ Pets'.
Robbie Saddler and her husband Brian took in Ace as their own in 2013 when a friend who worked away from home a lot asked if they would be interested. The animal loving Saddlers were happy to welcome the five-year-old Border Collie into their home.
Then, in October 2017, Ace damaged his spine while running for a ball. Despite the ensuing paralysis, Ace continues to be very active and playful and enjoys a great quality of life. The Saddlers dote on the beloved dog and take him to hydrotherapy once a fortnight to keep him in good health. His Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair enables him to run and play, just like any other dog.
“Ace has taught me a lot about perseverance, dedication, patience, and loyalty,” said Robbie.
“He is the most intelligent dog you’d ever meet. Everybody loves him!”
Ace won a calendar spot after a popular vote on the HandicappedPets.com's Facebook page. A pool of 240 entries from 26 countries around the world.
The Walkin’ Pets 2019 Calendar will be available through U.K.’s Wheels4dogs.
