There’s a new coffee shop in town, and manager Steve Incledon is confident the staff at Second Cup can “give it that little bit extra” when it comes to quality and customer service.

The Newport branch of Second Cup is a franchise of the Canadian company, but Mr Incledon says the cafe offers something different from the big chains.

The cafe opened last Saturday (September 22) but he is already looking at developing important links with the local area.

“We’re going to be community based,” he said. “We’re looking to help out with a couple of different charities, and as the business grows, we’ll do more.”

As well as the classics you’d expect to find in a coffee shop, Second Cup also offers more unusual treats like frozen yoghurt and Italian smoothies, using a choice of fruits and chocolates among other ingredients.

For those looking for a bite to eat, Second Cup also has a wide variety of snacks on offer, including paninis, sandwiches, cakes and other nibbles.

Many of the cafe’s sweet treats are baked in-store, including chocolate-chip cookies, croissants and pastries, as well as a wide range of cakes.

On the day Mr Incledon spoke to the Argus, staff had prepared carrot cake, sticky toffee cake and a chocolate cake.

Some of these options will be gluten-free, the manager said.

The cafe is beautifully decorated with a bright, welcoming shop front and a cosy, laid-back shop rear, complete with a fireplace, armchairs and sofas.

Regular customers at Second Cup can take advantage of the cafe’s loyalty card scheme, through which their next cup of coffee is on the house after they collect six stamps.
