YOUNG people are getting training thanks to some Welsh sporting stars.
Rugby Union player, Philippa Tuttiett and Paralympic gold medallist swimmer, Liz Johnson are delivering Get on Track , the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust’s flagship programme, in Newport and are running sessions to help young people to realise the attitudes and behaviours needed to make positive life choices.
The programme is delivered in conjunction with YMCA Newport and is funded by Great Western Railway, through its Customer and Communities Improvement Fund.
Ms Tuttiett said: “We believe as a charity that every young person has the potential to lead a positive life, no matter what their background or current circumstances.”
Mike Morgan from YMCA Newport said: “This is such a fantastic programme for young people, and YMCA Newport is thrilled to be the local delivery partner in Newport.
“It’s so important to give young people opportunities so they can reach their potential and be more informed and aware of how important a positive attitude is when facing barriers in life.”
The Trust works with young people who are most in need of help, including those who are long-term unemployed, care leavers and homeless people.
