A FAMILY had to be rushed from their home after a fire broke out in the attic, leaving the roof gutted.

Firefighters were called to the house in Playford Crescent, Ringland, at 6.41pm on Saturday, September 29.

Six fire engines were called to the scene and spent three hours putting out the flames, leaving the scene at 9.35pm.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "No-one knows what happened.

"Someone jumped over my fence at about 6.30pm and said there was a fire.

"So I got the pets out as quickly as I could.

"I wasn't allowed to come back into my house until later in the evening. I just walked around with the dogs until I could go back."

She added neighbours in the area had "rallied around" to help the residents, who are believed to include a number of small children, as well as some pets.

The fire service said everyone in the house was accounted for.

No one is believed to have been hurt.
