MONMOUTHSHIRE Scouts are creating 2,500 ceramic poppies to be installed at Raglan Castle on November 18 to remember the county’s fallen soldiers from the last century.

The poppies form part of the organisation's Monmouthshire Remembers project. On Sunday, November 18, the finished poppies will be installed at Raglan Castle for the Monmouthshire Scouts remembrance ceremony.

The event's organisers have collected the names of service personnel from Monmouthshire who have lost their lives in conflict over the last 100 years. It will be the first time ever that those names are displayed together.

Scout leader Ceri Carlyon said: “We are so proud to be part of such a large scale commemorative event. We are so grateful for the support that has been shown by the local authority, community groups and schools to help us achieve our aim.”

County councillors joined the Scouts last week to help make 100 of the poppies, and during a visit to Tintern in July, Prince Charles also tried his hand at modelling one of the flowers.

Cllr Sara Jones said: “I applaud the initiative to commemorate our soldiers and very much look forward to seeing the poppies on display at the event in November.”

To remember the county's war heroes from the last century, the Scouts are collecting information from families of any soldiers who lost their lives in conflict.
