Nearly two out of every three readers who voted in an Argus poll want a second referendum on the UK’s European Union membership – a result which sparked a fierce debate on our website.

A total of 1,518 people took part in a poll at southwalesargus.co.uk.

When asked what they think should happen next with Brexit, 63 per cent of respondents (956 people) said: “We need a second referendum to give people the chance to vote on whether or not we should remain in the EU”.

Here’s what you had to say about the results on our website:

“I’m not surprised most Argus readers are in favour of a second referendum.

“It is clear now - and it wasn’t clear two years ago - that Brexit would be bad for all of us in Wales.

“Brexit is toxic. We don’t want it.”

Bill Chapman

“Rubbish. It will be great for the UK and great for Wales with more better paid jobs.”

“The people were asked a question and they answered.

“That answer now forms part of our law as it is in our legislation.

“The agitators, quizlings, fifth columnist and traitors can moan about it as much as they want but we are leaving.”

yanto8

“It’s crystal clear that a Brexit will be a disaster for the UK.

“The only people who will benefit are those who wish to avoid the new tax laws that the EU is introducing in March 2019.

“Please inform yourself. Most people in the UK do not wish to have their hard won rights taken away from them.”

Chef of the Year

“I remember George Osbourne telling us that the sky would fall in the day after the Brexit vote.

“He also told us that there would have to be an emergency budget and tax increases with cuts to the NHS as a consequence of the Leave result - didn’t happen did it?”

Cath Evans

“Now that is funny - a referendum is no more than an opinion poll and opinion has changed.

“Two years on no-one knows what Brexit is and there’s not one quantified financial benefit.

“May won’t get her EU in all but name past the split Tory party so there will inevitably be a general election and another referendum.”

National Geographic

“We are lucky enough to remember what it was like before the Federal Republic Union of Europe.

“We have never agreed to Europe controlling or day-to-day lives, who we are allowed to trade with, or speak too without their permission.”

Piggysmum29

“Many elderly voted Remain - I’m one of them.

“I did look into the implications of what we would lose if we left.

“Unfortunately most leavers didn’t.

“I voted Remain for all our sakes but, in particular for my grandchildren.

“I want them to have the same freedoms I’ve been able to enjoy since the UK became a member.”

Lizincaerwent

“The problem is most youngsters now regret voting Brexit because they haven’t got a clue what they were voting for - it will be years before we get any results of whether we will sink or swim.

“We could end up a lonely country struggling for food sources etc.

“Let use pray we don’t have a drought or a flood because we will be on our own without the help from other countries with resources.

“There are lots of things that were not considered.”

Mrsgab56

“The evidence, were there to be any, of any success will take generations to emerge, but that of failure will be pretty much immediate.”

Hamadryad

“Anyone who wants a second referendum, does not believe in democracy!

“Do not insult mine and other people’s intelligence by saying, “We did not know what we were voting for.”

skipbifferty

“Now the self-serving lies of the Brexiteers have been laid bare we must have a say based on reality.

“It’s the working people who will suffer most because of Brexit.”

Mal Function

“Had the vote been to Remain, what chance do you think that there would have been in getting a second referendum in those circumstances?”

Dafydd y Garreg Wen

“We already had a second referendum, it was in 2016.

“I wasn’t around for the first one in 1975.”

Rob M

“We had the vote and Leave won.

“How in a democratic society can we vote again, it would mean the end of democracy.”

Sabrewatch

If you vote to leave the European Union you are always advised to vote again and again until you give the “correct” answer.

If this vote is ignored then you will do damage to this country forever.”
